Fish-facility Infrastructure at MPI–AGE.
Complete animal facility furbishing for the breeding of and experimentation with 2 species of fish (turquoise killifish (Nothobranchius furzeri) and medaka (Oryzias latipes)).
Basic requirements / key features of the system should be:
A) Experimental colonies:
— Modular system for housing/breeding 2 different fish species in a 58,09 m² room (7,09 m x 8,49 m).
The system should consist of 2 independent water circuits/centralized filtration system both of which change 10 % of system water on a daily basis and supply water for the 2 species of fish, which require the following number of tanks:
Nothobranchius colony:
~1000 – 1300 2.5-3.8 L tanks (in a single centralized water circuit/filtration system), with optional support/housing capacity for ~100 – 150 8-10 L tanks, within the same centralized filtration.
Medaka colony:
300 2.5-3.8 L tanks (in a single centralized water circuit/filtration system), with optional support/house ~50 – 80 8-10 L tanks, within the same centralized filtration
B) Quarantine colonies:
— quarantine housing/breeding of fish in 3-5 stand alone, self sufficient racks in a 19,15 m² room (7,09 m x 2,70 m):
3 to 5 stand-alone filtration systems for the quarantine room with ca. 144 – 240 2.5-3.8 L tanks and 18-30 8-10 L tanks that can be used in a modular fashion.
Stand-alone "quarantine units" for fish aquariums need to include pumps, filters, one central pH and salinity control unit, each.
— The exact set up and specifications of the complete facility will need to be coordinated with the users and the engineering team for the building that’ll house the facility.
