A 28_2013 EMIL Analytics E55532372
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin creates the new material science laboratory EMIL for energy converting materials from the research fields of photovoltaics and photocatalysis. For in-situ and in-system investigations a complex arrangement of deposition instruments will be coupled under UHV-conditions to a state of the art synchrotron radiation based analytics endstation. Sample sizes from 10*10 mm up to 6 inch wafers will become subject of the X-ray investigations; hence a (semi-) automated, versatile sample manipulation system will be a crucial component of the system. For the analysis instruments the focus lies on the integration of a state of the art HAXPES-electron analyzer for kinetic energies up to 10 keV into the planned sophisticated endstation. Additional equipment from a soft X-ray emission spectrometer, XRF-detectors up to laboratory VUV-light sources must be included into this endstation. Due to the limited space given by the synchrotron beamlines space constraints will be a major additional challenge of the construction.
