The EXED inelastic chopper system will consist of two discs made of carbon fiber, mounted in a single housing sharing a common vacuum with neutron guide system. Each disc has to be mounted on a rotor axis of phase stabilized (0.01° on a range of 360°) motor and supported by conventional (hybrid) ball bearings. Maximum rotation speed of 250 Hz (15000 rpm) should be achieved for each disc. The discs should be able to park in a specified open or closed position. The bearings lifetime for the chopper running at maximum speed should be at least 6 months.
Both discs shall be operated (independently) in cw and ccw directions. The diameter of the discs shall be 600 mm. The discs have to be coated (in the ‘active’ radial range slightly bigger than the aperture heights) with Boron containing coatings (10B4C) with a transmission <10-7 for the calculated spectrum.
Beside the chopper hardware specified deliverables include:
— power supplies, chopper phase and speed control electronics, speed and phase control programming package and an interface to the instrument control computer system, monitoring and automatic safety system;
— hardware and software communication protocol between choppers, speed and phase control electronics as well as the safety system and the instrument control system;
— complete documentation on chopper system and on items listed above including results of quality control tests during fabrication.

Mindeststandards:
At least two references of highly reputed neutron scattering centers approving the faultless operation of carbon fibre made chopper discs at angular speeds beyond 250 Hz for more than 5 000 hours. Disc should be similar to specification given above.
Auftragsausführung
Wichtigste Finanzierungsbedingungen und Zahlungsmodalitäten und/oder Verweis auf die einschlägigen Bestimmungen, die sie regeln:
30 % after signing contract with bank guaranty.
10 % after delivery of final design and acceptance by HZB.
30 % after delivery of the chopper system to HZB.
30 % after installation and final acceptance tests at HZB.
