Soft X-Ray Exit Slits for SASE3 beamline

European X-Ray Free-Electron Laser Facility GmbH

An exit slit is a device installed at a soft X-ray beamline to select monochromatic light behind a dispersive grating. The scope of work consists of design, fabrication, testing and delivery of two identical exit slits for two soft X-ray beamlines at the European XFEL.
Two 120 mm long, wedged and water-cooled boron-carbide blades define the slit aperture. European XFEL will provide the boron-carbide parts according to the blade design developed by the vendor. The exit slit shall comply with UHV (better than 10-9mbar) and particle-free (ISO class 5) specifications.
Major challenges of this project are (a) a 2µm blade movement reproducibility and stability (at 20µm opening range) under changing absorbed thermal load (up to 50W per blade) and (b) a large vertical fully open position (>32mm) combined with the 0.5µm resolution of the blade movement when the slit works in the 20µm opening range.

6) Company profile including an overview of designing, manufacturing, testing capabilities, qualification of the staff that will work on this project.

The limitation of the number of candidates to be invited to submit an offer will be based on the criteria already mentioned under III.2.3) Technical capacity. The evaluation will be based on the documents and data submitted by the tenderers. A tenderer can only be evalutated reliably if the required declarations and certificates are submitted.
