Delivery of a Super-Polished X-ray Kirkpatrick Baez optical systems for the Single Particle, Clusters and Biomolecules (SPB) Instrument including the production of all mirrors, mechanical components and vacuum chambers needed for the focusing systems as well as the necessary design work, metrology of mirrors, testing and documentation.
The system consists of two different sub systems: one to provide a 100 nm scale focus and a second to provide a micron scale focus. The 100 nm scale focus consists of two (2) super-polished X-ray KB mirrors: one for horizontal focusing and one for vertical focusing. The micron scale focus consists of four (4) super-polished X-ray KB mirrors: a focusing pair for the KB and two additional flat mirrors to steer the European XFEL due to the long focal length.
Challenges of this project are the extremely tight tolerances for the slope error and profile error (2 nm peak-to-valley) of the 1 meter long mirrors, which all have to be provided also with a cooling system. This has to be matched by a rigid design of the mounts and mirror vessels, which should not exceed vibration levels of 20 nrad rms.
Special attention has to be paid to the UHV compatibility (1E-9 mbar or better hydrocarbon-free vacuum) and the particle-free requirements (ISO5) concerning the design and assembly of the vacuum chambers.

Kurze Beschreibung:

Technische und berufliche Fähigkeiten:

— References of at least 5 similar or equivalent systems: In paticular cooled mirrors or monochromators at FELs or synchrotrons, mirrors >0.4 m, UHV compatible systems,

— Certificates or proof of available ISO5 for cleanrooms or better,

— Demonstrated experience with indium gallium eutectic mirror cooling systems,

— Demonstrated experience with (10's of) nano-radian mirror angular control,

— Demonstrated experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA),

— Demonstrated experience with oil-free pump stations, e.g. best UHV RGAs obtained at the facility,

— Metrology equipment: at least one linear interferometer or an autocollimator,

— Company profile including an overview of manufacturing, testing capabilities, qualification of the staff that will be working on this project. Special attention will be paid to in-house capabilities for design, manufacturing and testing.

A bidders consortium must fulfill the following requirements:

— the request for participation and the offer are submitted jointly and

The contracting authority reserves the right to request further documentation in order to verify the legitimacy of the co-operation.

Due to the uniqueness of the measures for the mirrors the super-polishing has to be provided by a company specified by European XFEL GmbH.

The limitation on the number of candidates to be invited to submit an offer will be based on the criteria as follows:

a) the tenderer's economic and financial capacity;

The evaluation of a) and b)will be based on the documents and data to be handed in by tenderers under sec. III. of this public notice. A tenderer can only be evaluated reliably, if the required declarations and certificates are submitted. The criteria under a) and b) will be evaluated at the ratio 40 % to 60 %.
