81204527 — Capacity Development — Tourism and Agriculture

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

After the political opening in Myanmar in 2010, the economy has started to grow. But positive growths effects are uneven, especially outside the urban areas of Yangon and Mandalay, and business practices are not always sustainable. The Myanmar government aims to strengthen micro, small and medium sized enterprises and to ensure cohesive development of all parts of the country. With its new economic policy the government wants to establish an economic system which can deliver a proportional development in all sectors. It is expected to be an economic framework which would also promote national reconciliation.
In-line with this mission, GIZ's support to priority sectors like agriculture and tourism will lead to the multiplication of economic development benefits into regions and communities that have been neglected until now. In 2013 Shan State was selected as Germany's pilot region by PSD's programme partners.
