German development cooperation was intensively involved in promoting good governance and supporting decentralization in Indonesia over the past decade. From 2013 onwards, the focus has shifted from decentralization to improving public services and reform of the civil service. Support was provided through the project ‘Transforming the administration, strengthening Innovation’ running from April 2013 to December 2016. It is anticipated that the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) will commission us to implement the above project
While Indonesia is progressing from a developing toward a middle-income country, a comparison of various governance indices still reveals a discrepancy between Indonesia's good rankings in terms of political, democratic and economic progress and its less favorable assessments with regard to effectiveness and efficiency of government and the quality of the bureaucracy.
