Environmental consultancy support on technical issues associated with aircraft noise
The European Aviation Safety Agency is actively leading and contributing to various technical work programmes related to aviation noise at both the European level, and within international bodies such as the ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (hereafter ‘CAEP’) and the Society of Aerospace Engineers International (hereafter ‘SAE’). The main elements to this work include:
(1) interdependencies and trade-offs with aircraft emissions and noise from a technological and operational perspective;
(2) assessment of advances in aircraft and engine design technologies related to aircraft noise;
(3) non-acoustical aspects of aircraft noise;
(4) development of new certification standards and guidance material (e.g. supersonic transport certification requirements);
(5) update and maintenance of existing certification standards and guidance material (e.g. atmospheric absorption correction);
(6) monitor developments in new concepts (e.g. open rotor, supersonic transport); and
(7) development and use of modelling capabilities and data streams to support work on environmental impact assessments and performance indicators.
The purpose of the contemplated framework contract is to provide upon request all appropriate and high-level technical support to the Agency in order to successfully achieve the objectives of work programmes in the areas described above.
