81215994 — Pilot approach for short-term training courses in the Banking and Finance sector of Myanmar
After decades of military rule, in 2011 a transformation towards a market-oriented economy and democratic society began in Myanmar. Despite visible political progress, there is still a highly restrictive regulatory environment and a weak banking and financial sector which holds back the economic development of the country.
GIZ's Financial Sector Development Program in Myanmar promotes stable and inclusive growth of financial services for Myanmar. The program supports the Central Bank supervision department, SME Finance with private pilot banks, international reporting standards (IFRS) and HR-development. As a member state of the ASEAN, Myanmar is facing an increasing pressure of foreign banks entering the market. Improvement of skills in the banking and finance sector has been identified as the key factor for the competitiveness of local banks.
