Working in cooperation with state and civil society agencies from Germany, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey, GIZ's regional program ‘Psychosocial Support for Syrian and Iraqi Refugees and Internally Displaced People’ improves psychosocial support for refugees and Internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Middle East. It promotes the integration of MHPSS-approaches in sectors such as education, employment or infrastructure, facilitates exchange between relevant actors and strengthens expertise on the ground. Since its inception in 2015, the program fosters common principles for high quality MHPSS work, supports the implementation of these principles and paves the ground for cooperation between projects that offer psychosocial support for refugees and IDPs in the region. Another focal area is the reinforcement of local MHPSS skills with the aim of establishing needs-based services on a sound footing.
