The FABRIC project (‘Promoting Sustainability in the Textile and Garment Industry in Asia’) supports the Asian textile industry in its transformation towards fair production for people and the environment. It identifies the common interests of key actors — in the factories, ministries, civil society and international brand manufacturers — and brings them together with the aim of developing a shared vision of sustainability and promoting greater cooperation.
The project operates in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Myanmar, Pakistan and Viet Nam and works with China. The project activities are clustered in five output areas as follows:
1) prerequisites for a common positioning of the producer countries on essential sustainability aspects have been strengthened;
2) new forms of cooperation with the private sector promote the transition of a sector towards sustainable textile and garment production;
3) implementation of labour and social standards are being promoted;
4) conditions for gender equality at the workplace have improved;
5) preconditions to strengthen the capacities for sustainable environmental and resource management are improved transnationally.
