Linear Degrader Drives

FAIR - Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research in Europe GmbH

The degraders are used as a crucial part of the in-flight separation method applied at the Super-FRS. Different types of degraders are used which makes different demands on the combination of the used drives. Linear and rotation drives are used to move in the degrader plates and disks into the correct position to provide the needed material thickness and angle to the interacting beam. All drives are mounted from top onto the vacuum chambers in the focal planes of the Super-FRS. Each drive contains a stepper motor and the rotation drives also a pressure drive for moving the degraders in and out.
