Beschreibung der Beschaffung
Managing events in different countries for Start-ups in the AgTech and FoodTech sector GIZ implements the project "Scaling digital agriculture innovations through start-ups" (SAIS) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The purpose of SAIS is to increase the investor readiness of selected African start-ups in the food- and agTech sector that are about to scale. For this purpose, the project provides tailor-made company development measures (e. g. improving business models, product development, financial management) through an Investment Readiness Programme (IRP) and facilitates access to investment opportunities.
Tasks to be performed by contractors
The contractor is responsible for organizing and implementing four event groups. The organization of the events has to happen in close dialogue with the SAIS team. SAIS will also take a lead role in running the actual events and activities with regard to content, whereas the contractor is responsible for the organization and smooth implementation (search of venues, bookings, flights, travel in country, financial management, troubleshooting at events etc.).
Following events and travels are envisaged and should be covered by the contract:
1. SAIStival
The SAIStival is the main event of the Investment Readiness Programmes. It combines kick-off for new start-ups, and demo-day for start-ups already in the programme. It will take 3 to 4 days. It includes a variety of sessions, reaching from key notes, over onboarding and peer-to-peer learning sessions to a pitching event in front of investors. Most likely this event will be held in an African country which will be defined approximately six months before the event between SAIS and the contractor. When deciding on which country the event is held in, factors such as safety, visa requirements, accessibility from different countries as well as relevancy of the local start-up ecosystem, amongst others, are to be considered.
The SAIStival will be planned as a hybrid event with at least parts of the event being streamed to an online audience. Here the contractor has either to provide or to subcontract services that allow for an online-live-streaming.
The SAIS project anticipates that there are going to be three SAIStival events for the Investment Readiness Programmes for the years 2024, 2025, 2026. The audience is to be defined, but will potentially at least have 60 participants in person. Numbers could increase according to specific planning.
2. Female Founder Award
The Female Founder Award honours on a bi-annually basis female founders of African tech-start-ups in the agriculture or food sector who have shown a distinguishable success on the African continent. 2023 will be the first year this prize is awarded. It will include a financial as well as an in-kind prize element, for example a certain amount of expert days in a certain field. In addition an award ceremony will be held.
The contractor will be responsible for the financial part of the prize as well as for contracting the service provider for the in-kind part of the price. Furthermore, the contractor will plan and implement the award ceremony.
In 2023, the award ceremony will take place in autumn, in 2025 it is likely that it will be held as part of the SAIStival.
3. Start-up Journeys
Start-up journeys are projected for 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. All together around 25 start-up journeys are planned annually over the four years and on each journey approximately six representatives from different start-ups and two SAIS team members will join (the later at their own costs). The journeys will be to relevant industry events like start-up conferences, tech summits or alike all over the globe. The decision on which event which start-up will visit, will be made jointly between the start-up, SAIS and the contractor.
4. Investor Roadshow
The investors roadshows are planned for 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. Initially it is planned, to have 2 roadshows per year.
As for the above formats it is expected of the contractor to organize all logistics connected to the Investor Roadshow like booking flights and accommodation for participants, getting their visas, organizing logistics on the ground like transfers, catering, etc. It is expected that the contractor has one person on the ground accompanying the Roadshow to make sure that everything runs smoothly and another one to cover the trip media-wise (taking pictures and shorter videos). The roadshows will most likely take place in capitals or major cities in Africa. Please be aware that short-notice adaptations on the planning need to be in consideration by the contractor.
