II.1.5) Short description of the contract or purchase(s): The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) will install a Series Connected Hybrid (SCH) magnet for performing neutron scattering experiments in high magnetic fields. The SCH magnet consists of a concentric superconducting outer magnet and a water-cooled inner magnet. It has a horizontal bore and can be rotated within an angle of ± 15° about the vertical axis. The superconducting outsert coil of the SCH magnet will be constructed of Nb3Sn cable-in-conduit conductor. A helium refrigerator shall be used to supply the cooling. It shall produce helium at two different temperature and pressure levels: first supercritical helium for the superconducting coil at ~4 500 and second gas for cooling of the shields, supports and the current leads at ~50 000. The cryogenic plant, including valve box and transfer lines, is the subject of this call for tender. The HZB intends to buy a reliable, low maintenance, high quality helium refrigeration system, which has an expected service life of 20 years. The work includes the design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, testing and also operator training if necessary.
