On behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the qualifications and employment perspectives for refugees and host communities in Ethiopia Programme (QEP) supports the Ethiopian government in improving employment perspectives of refugees and host communities across the country: in Addis Ababa and in four regions: Somali, Benishangul-Gumuz, Tigray and through a Norwegian contribution in Gambella. The programme establishes linkages between the vocational training sector and the labour market.
Gambella is one of the country's least developed regions and characterised by low local government capacities. Consequently, also the vocational training sector is extremely weak and needs to be strengthened in order to carry out its mandate of qualifying young people for employment. However, the vocational training sector in Tigray is in comparison well developed. Here, QEP supports integrated (Eritreans and Ethiopians) training and employment partnerships with public TVET colleges and industry.
