Beschreibung der Beschaffung:

The demonstrator will use existing Climate DT data to evaluate risks related to the occurrence and intensity of compound extreme climatic events in future climate and their implications for agricultural systems and macroeconomic implications. With this contract ECMWF aims to support the development of a DestinE demonstrator to support the ECB in its efforts to enhance its analysis and modelling capabilities by defining and testing selected climate indicators for the agriculture sector for future integration into ECB’s analysis. This is expected to eventually enable a more precise assessment of how climate-related extremes including heatwaves, cold spells, droughts, floods as well as compounded extreme events, impact agricultural productivity and food prices. Understanding these relationships will enable the ECB and other central banks to assess how climate-induced volatility in food prices can influence inflation dynamics, economic growth and financial stability. This information will support the integration of climate risk into macroeconomic modelling and help strengthen the ECB’s capacity for resilient, forward-looking monetary policy and financial oversight. Further details, including additional technical requirements are contained within the Volume II document of the ITT. Kindly note that an extension to the deadline for receipt of tenders is not anticipated and any such requests for an extension should be entirely avoided. ECMWF intends to award one contract for a duration of up to 18 months.

In submitting this notice ECMWF does not waive the privileges and immunities granted to it by virtue of its status as an intergovernmental organisation or submit itself to any jurisdiction. The objective of this Agreement is for the development of a demonstrator leveraging high-resolution climate data from the Destination Earth initiative. It aims to assess and quantify climate-related risks to the agricultural sector, food prices, and financial stability through the development of tailored indicators and forward-looking scenarios for the European Central Bank (ECB). The scope includes stakeholder co-design with the ECB and ECMWF experts, delivery of datasets and scenarios, and provision of a Python-based analytical toolbox to support integration into ECB macroeconomic analysis and decision-making processes.
